    Horses Racing

Welcome to the Little Brown Jug Website! The Little Brown Jug is the most prestigious 3-year-old pacing race in North America. Each year more people journey to Delaware, Ohio to witness the "Jug" than to see any other harness race. In 1997, over 56,000 racing fans were in attendance. This is the largest crowd in history known to watch a harness race.

A horse has to win two heats to be declared the winner of the Jug. There are typically two or three elimination heats with the top finishing horses returning for a second heat. If no horse has won two heats, the winners return again for a final race. This makes for a very interesting afternoon of racing.

Little Brown Jug day is almost like an Oktoberfest ... people come early to tailgate. Sports Illustrated once said that the biggest cocktail party in the state of Ohio is at the Delaware County Fairgrounds on Jug day. Join us for the 65th Little Brown Jug on September 23rd, 2010.

If you have never been to the Little Brown Jug, you have missed a wonderful day. For many people this is the only harness race seen all year. If you do come, you will find it addicting and I wager you'll come back again and again.

I hope you enjoy our Website. If you have any suggestions, please let me know at (740) 363-6000.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Thomson
    Director of Racing
