Color’s A Virgin Wins the $298,100 Jugette

Emerald Highlands Farm's Color’s A Virgin won the 44th edition of the Jugette Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware County Fair.

Color’s A Virgin and Trace Tetrick used a perfect second over trip and edged past Beautiful Lady (Matt Kakaley) in the lane to score a 1 ¼ length victory in 1:52.4. Beach Story (Brett Miller) rallied for the show spot.

The Jugette victory was the first for driver Trace Tetrick and trainer Brian Brown.

“The (Jugette) is my best win,” noted the 27 year-old driver. “I’m thankful to have the opportunity…She is a great mare.”

Brown didn’t celebrate until his filly crossed the finish line. “Sometimes when she is on the front or she clears too early, she can lose her concentration and she runs on us.”

In her elimination, Color’s A Virgin scored a 2 ½ length win over Southwind Silence (Matt Kakaley) and Also Encouraging (David Miller).

The second elim was won by the late charging Gallie ByThe Beach (John Campbell) who edged the pacesetting Allstar Rating (Yannick Gingras) by a neck in 1:52.2. Beach Gal finished third and advanced to the $178,862 final.

The final $39,746 elim was dominated by Beautiful Lady (Matt Kakaley) in 1:52.2. Beach Story (David Miller) was 7 ¼ lengths behind the winner. Candy’s A Virgin (Trace Tetrick) was third and advanced to the final.

The daughter of Always A Virgin has now won 13 of 21 career starts and has earned $448,573.
