Wall of Fame Honoree For 2001 April 19, 2001 Lachance was chosen by a 22-member panel of national and international harness racing enthusiasts. Lachance has won more nearly 9,000 races and his drives have collected over $129 million in purse earnings over a 34 year career. Lachance has won nearly every major stakes race in North America, including three Hambletonian finals and 21 Breeders Crown events. The St. Augustin, Quebec native realized a life long dream by winning back-to-back Little Brown Jugs in 1988 and 1989 with B J Scoot and Goalie Jeff. He also captured Jug glory with Magical Mike (1994) and Western Dreamer (1997). Since his first Little Brown Jug start in 1983, Lachance has quickly rewritten the Brown Jug record books. Lachance has visited the Delaware County Fairgrounds winner's circle a record thirteen times in 42 Jug starts and his four Jug titles place him just one behind the legendary William Haughton on the all-time list. During the ten year period from 1988-1997, Lachance steered 12 winners in just 27 Brown Jug starts for a .531 UDRS. In 1995 Lachance received the sport's ultimate honor, when he was elected into the Living Hall of Fame in Goshen, New York. Lachance will be officially inducted and presented a commemorative gold ring at the Little Brown Jug Mayor's Breakfast at Ohio Wesleyan University on September 19, the morning before the 56th Little Brown Jug at the Delaware County Fairgrounds. Tickets to the Mayor's Breakfast are available for $25 each by phoning (800) 335-3247 or by writing The Mayor's Breakfast, P.O. Box 1278, Delaware, Ohio 43015 |
