As The Road To Delaware Begins Delaware, Ohio--The "Road to the Little Brown Jug" wound through Pocono Downs, The Meadowlands and the Hippodrome de Montreal in important three-year-old pacing action on Saturday. Quality Of Life captured the $162,944 Max Hempt Memorial in 1:53.3 at Pocono Downs....Much heralded stablemate Klingon Hanover finished second in his elimination of the $500,000 Prix de Montreal....and reigning juvenile and Breeders Crown champion Bettor's Delight finished second in his elim of the $500,000 New Jersey Classic at The Meadowlands. Bob Rosenheim's Quality Of Life, a son of Life Sign trained by Peter Blood, won in a driving finish over Ready Cash and Inside Pitch. "You always dream of winning a big stakes race," said 26-year-old driver Sean Bier. "This is the biggest win of my career and Peter (Blood) did a great job with the horse." Blood has called Quality of Life one of the top three-year-olds in the country. Quality Of Life won last week's elimination in 1:51.4. At Lexington's Red Mile earlier this spring Quality Of Life twice finished second to Klingon Hanover. "I got a few more grey hairs with this race," said owner Rosenheim. "But we got the job done. I know where to look for a good young driver when we come to Pocono." Klingon Hanover, who won three legs of a series at Lexington including a 1:51 mile, finished second to non-Jug eligible On The Attack in his elimination at Montreal. The mile was in 1:51.2. Hawaiian Cowboy took the f irst elim in 1:53.2. Bettor's Delight, voted "2YO Pacer of the Year in 2000," led his Jersey Classic elimination through opening quarters of :27.1 and ;56.1. Bettor's Delight was still on top through the three-quarters in 1:24.2. Gambler's Dream, another colt not eligible to the Jug, challenged Bettor's Delight through the stretch and just got up for the win. Jug eligible Whosurboy paced an impressive 1:51 mile to win under wraps over Jazz St Partners and Fully Loaded in his division of the NJ Classic. The Artsplace colt is trained by Mark Ford and owned by Ed Mullinax of Amherst, Ohio. Gunthatwonthewest captured the first elim 1:51.4 over Arts Planet. |
