Pine Valley Wins Tompkins-Geers at Scioto Downs;
Quality Of Life, Hyper Link Score In Red Mile Elims

June 26, 2001

Pine Valley, a Jenna's Beach Boy colt trained by David Knight and driven by Brian Sears, captured a $23,800 division of the Tompkins-Geers 3YO Pace in 1:54.1 at Scioto Downs. The colt was making his 2001 debut after winning 8 of 15 races at two.

At Lexington's Red Mile on Saturday afternoon Quality Of Life stamped himself as the one to beat in this week's $92,600 final of the Spring Championship with a career best 1:50.1. With Michael Stevenson driving, the Peter Blood-trained son of Life Sign drew clear in the stretch to win by 6 widening lengths. Quality Of Life is a stablemate of Klingon Hanover and lost twice to that colt earlier this spring at The Red Mile.

Hyper Link overcame a bad habit of breaking stride to win a division in a career-best 1:52.3 for driver Chris Loney and trainer Dick Oldfield. Hyper Link is a son of Jate Lobell. Saturday's $92,600 Spring Championship Colt Pace will be the richest ever at a Red Mile spring meeting.
