Seven Drivers To Make First Jug Start
September 18, 2001
The 56th edition of the Little Brown Jug will definitely have
a "rookie" feel to it. Seven drivers will be making their
first Little Brown Jug start, even though many of them are
among North America's top reinsmen. A pair of Quebec natives
lead the rookie class. Stephane Bouchard has steered 499
winners in 2001, which places him second in North America.
Sylvain Filion's mounts have won $4,301,530 this season which
places him ninth in North America.
Ohioans Brett Miller, Jim Pantateano, Jamie Dunlap and Ron
Steck along with Saratoga regular Stephen Smith will also be
making their first Jug trips around the famed half-mile. Steck
is a resident of Marengo, Ohio just a half an hour from the
Delaware County Fairgrounds.
Campbell, Lachance To Do Battle For 2nd Elim and History
While John Campbell (Real Desire) and Mike Lachance (Bettor's
Delight) are expected to do battle in the second elimination
of the Little Brown Jug, they will also be battling for the
all-time Jug earnings lead. Campbell has driven in 61 Jug
races, scoring 13 wins and $1,205,197 in Jug earnings. Mike
Lachance has needed just 42 starts to match Campbell's 13
wins. Lachance needs just $57,342 to catch Campbell in
earnings. Lachance leads Campbell in the most important stat,
Lachance's four Jug titles to Campbell's three. How good are
the two Canadian natives? While Lachance and Campbell have
teamed up for 26 wins and $2.3 million, the rest of the
drivers in the 56th Jug have earned a combined $1,617,266 and
10 victories.
