Real Desire, Camotion,
Gallo Blue Chip Among 27 Pacers
Delaware, Ohio--Twenty-seven pacers remain eligible to the estimated
$107,300 Magical Mike Pace scheduled Jug Day afternoon, Thursday, September
19th at the Delaware, Ohio County Fair. Among the 27 four-year-olds and older
pacers who may race in the Magical Mike is the richest pacer of all-time
Gallo Blue Chip; 2001 Meadowlands Pace and Breeders Crown winner Real Desire;
and 2002 Standardbred poll leader
Camotion.
The Magical Mike, named for 1994 Little Brown Jug champion
and New York
State pacing sire, is the result of an agreement between Delaware County Fair
officials and Thomas J. Walsh, Jr. a co-owner of Magical Mike who stands at
stud at Blue Chip Farms in New York.
A total of $65,000 will be added to the event for pacers
ages four and
up. The agreement will ensure the continuation of the Magical Mike Pace
through 2005.
"We've got a super group of pacers for our 2002 race," said Phil
Terry,
director of marketing for the Delaware Fair. "This is a Who's Who of
Pacing," added Tom Wright, race secretary.
The Magical Mike Pace had been raced since 1995. Among past
winners have
been such super stars as Jenna's Beach Boy, Stand Forever and Jet Laag. Stand
Forever holds the stake record of 1:49.2.
The six-day Delaware Grand Circuit begins Saturday,
September 14th and
continues through Thursday, September 19th.
The half-mile track World Record of 149 was set by Jet Laag
in 1999 at D
elaware, Ohio."That record may be in jeopardy," said Terry while looking
over the complete list of Magical Mike eligibles.
