ROUNDER WINS $100,000 HISTORIC-JERSEY CUP IN 1:50

    Little Brown Jug hopeful Rounder held on to win the $100,000 Historic
Series-Jersey Cup in a stakes-equalling record 1:50 Saturday at The
Meadowlands as the Road to the Jug winds its way to September 19th at
Delaware, Ohio.

    In other action involving three-year-old pacers, Boyish Charm upset Image
Of Dawn and Hot Rum in the $85,000 Spring Championship Final at Lexington's
Red Mile and Sportster and Midnight Gambit won $12,000 eliminations of the
Motor City Pace at Detroit's Hazel Park.

     The Road to the Jug continues next Saturday with $50,000 eliminations of
The Meadowlands Pace, the second leg of the $1,000,000 Grand Slam Bonus.
Also, on next weekend's agenda, is the $150,000 Motor City Final, $35,000
John F. Simpson Stakes at Hoosier Park and the $150,000 Ontario Sires Stakes
Gold Final at Flamboro Downs. There are also Maryland, New Jersey and New
York Sires Stakes Friday and Saturday.

    Rounder's victory came by a neck over Allamerican Ingot. The Western
Hanover colt was driven by Mike Lachance and trained by Tommy Haughton.
Lachance said after the race, "He showed a lot of class and speed, a lot of
speed."

    Haughton added, "I thought Allamerican Ingot would blow by him after that
trip. I thought the 10 hole would be tough for him, but he keeps proving
himself over and over. His next start will be in the Meadowlands Pace elims."

    Rounder, a $40,000 sales yearling, has won 4 of 7 starts this season and
earned $$182,558 for owners Jonathan and Alan Honig, and Mark Retblatt, all
of New York City. Rounder finished second to Monsoon Hall in the $177,000 Max
Hempt Memorial and won a Pennsylvania Sires Stake in 1:53.2 in his last start
on May 1st at The Meadows.. He did qualify in 1:51.2 on June 21st at The
Meadowlands.

    Boyish Charm upset heavily favored Image Of Dawn at The Red Mile with Hot
Rum Third. In this race, Boyish Charm raced with cover through
three-quarters, and then ducked inside to overhaul Image Of Dawn in the final
100 yards in 1:51.1. Image Of Dawn had won in 1:50.4 the week before. At Haz
el Park, Sportster defeated Cheyenne Rei in 1:54.1 and Midnight Gambit
downed No Contest Mindale in 1:51.3.
