Mach Three Draws
Rail For $1,000,000 Meadowlands Pace;
By Tom White
Meadowlands Pace elimination heat winners Mach Three and McArdle didn't
fare too well in he draw for post positions for Saturday's $1,000,000
Meadowlands Pace.
Mach Three, who won his elim in 1:50, will start from
the not-so-good
rail position while McArdle, who scored in 1:49.3, must leave from Post 8
in
the field of 10 three-year-olds. Mach Three is 8-5 in the morning line and
McArdle, part of an entry with Royal Mattjesty, is listed at odds of 7-2.
John Campbell, who will drive Mach Three for owner John
Muscara, was not
thrilled with the No. 1 Post. "Starting from the rail, he's going to be
used
more on the first turn then he was in the elimination. Last week he was
very
controllable and very ratable."
Monte Gelrod, who is handling Mach Three for
regular trainer Bill
Robinson, said of the Meadowlands favorite, "I always thought Mach Three
was
as good as Red River Hanover," who won the $1.500,000 North America
Cup but
failed to qualify for the Meadowlands Pace Final.
Mach Three was purchased by Joseph Muscara of
Huntington Valley, PA for a
reported $2.2 million in late May making it the highest price ever paid by
an
individual for a single standardbred horse.
McArdle's trainer Chris Ryder was not put off by his
colt's outside post
position because" He's so versatile." McArdle will be driven by Mike
Lachance
for owners Norman and Gerald Smiley and the Sampson Street Stables.
The Meadowlands Pace is the seventh race on Saturday's
program and will
go off at approximately 9:59 p.m.
