Harness
racing fans are in for even more of a treat than usual at next
month's Delaware County Fair. The fair, in Delaware, Ohio, kicks off
six afternoons of Grand Circuit racing on Saturday, September 14 and
concludes on Thursday, September 19 with the North America's top
three-year-old pacing colts battling in the Little Brown Jug.
For the first time, Delaware will host a "Fan Fair" where
racing fans can meet some of legends of harness racing; learn more
about the Jug's illustrious history, and get their photo taken with
the Little Brown Jug trophy while wearing a set of driver's colors.
The inaugural Fan Fair is sponsored by Fort Dodge Animal Health and
Buckeye Nutrition, and is a joint venture between the Delaware
County Fair and the United States Trotting Association.
The Fan Fair will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, and
8:30 until 11 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Events conclude with
each day's first race post time. The Fan Fair will be held under a
big top tent located between the Log Cabin and the Jug barn on the
backstretch area, which is open to the public.
"Delaware draws the most faithful fans in harness racing,"
said Phil Terry, director of marketing for the Little Brown Jug.
"The Fan Fair will give them a chance to meet some of their
favorite drivers and trainers, and to learn even more about this
fantastic event. It should also appeal to those that are new to
harness racing, and give them an idea of just how special this race
is. We're delighted that Fort Dodge Animal Health and Buckeye
Nutrition have joined us in this venture."
During the Fan Fair hours, the Little Brown Jug Theater will be
showing highlights from past Jugs, while the Little Brown Jug Book
Store will offer many different publications for sale.
The Little Brown Jug Meet & Greet will feature trainers, drivers
and other celebrities from past Jugs, as well as the connections of
a number of this year's contenders. The sessions will be held in a
question and answer format, with the stars available for autographs
afterwards. A representative from Fort Dodge Animal Health will also
present a segment on the West Nile Virus as a part of Meet &
Greet.
"Picture Yourself in the Little Brown Jug Winner's Circle"
will offer racing fans a chance to put on a set of driver's colors
and get their photo taken with the sterling silver Jug trophy that
was presented to late owner Robert Suslow for Happy Escort's victory
in 1986. A pony from the Harness Horse Youth Foundation's Youth
League will also be available for photo purposes. The Polaroid
photos cost just $2 with all proceed to going the Harness Horse
Youth Foundations numerous charitable efforts.
