Striking Memory completed the "Ohio Triple Crown" with her
victory in the first division of the Ohio Breeder's
Championship for sophomore filly trotters.
The daughter of Striking Sahbra overcame the outside eighth
post and cruised to a seven-length victory in 2:01 1/5 over a
track dulled by morning long rains. Striking Memory, who
previously captured the Ohio State Fair Stakes and Ohio Sire
Stakes Final, is owned by Thomas York Jr. of Granville, Ohio.
You would have to excuse driver Del S. Miller if he didn't
seem too excited in the winner's circle. Del's thoughts were
turned towards his son Brett, who avoided an almost disastrous
situation when the driver's bit broke on world champion Sturdy
Lori, leaving the young Miller careening out of control. After
a brief romp through the infield, Miller was forced to
evacuate the race bike. "The driving bit just broke right in
two and I was just along for the ride after that," commented
the relieved Miller. Both driver and horse walked away from
the incident uninjured.
In the second $32,303 division, Sack Cloth (Luc Ouellette)
went gate to wire to score an 2 length victory over I'm
Hunky Dori (Sam Noble III) and Lotstoliveupto (Ron Steck) in
2:00 4/5, a new lifetime mark.
OBC For Freshman Filly Pacers To C C Spice, A Walkinthepark
and Im A Sam Two
Im A Sam Two used a three wide move at the top of the lane to
nip Tracy Lou (David Hawk) at the wire in the final and
fastest division of the Ohio Breeders Championship for two-
year-old filly pacers. Owned by Joe Criswell of Marion, Ohio,
Im A Sam Two's (Jim Pantaleano) score in 1:56 4/5 was a new
lifetime mark for the Nobleland Sam filly.
The first division was taken by C C Spice and driver Jeff
Fout. C C Spice was parked on the lead at the quarter mile
pole but had plenty in reserve as she cruised to a 13 length
victory over Easy Sahbra (Luc Ouellette) in 1:57. The freshman
daughter of In The Pocket has 10 wins in just twelve seasonal
starts for Chuck Campbell of Blissfield, Michigan.
A Walkinthepark (Greg Grismore) took the second division over
Honey's Bud Lite (Brett Miller) in 1:57 1/5.
OBC Aged Trot To Anatasia Baron & Glory Bound
A total of 11 trotters went postward in two divisions of the
$18,400 Ohio Breeders Championship for four and five year-old
trotters. Anastasia Baron (Jef Conger) proved to be the best
in the first division with a 1:59 2/5 mile over Molded Bay
(Dan Ross).
Glory Bound (Jim Pantaleano) scored in the second division in
2:00 2/5 over Trojan Spark (Brett Miller).
Five Divisions Of Billings Amateur Trot Contested
The fastest division of the Billings Amateur Trot went to
Michael Mitchell of Davidson, Michigan and Caruso Hanover in
2:01 1/5. The other divisions went to Gene Miller (Bingham),
Bud Hatfield (Silent Pictureshow), Leslie Zendt (Dark Magic)
and Robert Miller (Butch Is King).
Tuesday's action will go postward at 12:30 PM.
