Delaware, Ohio--Hambletonian champion Chip
Chip Hooray set a world record
of 1:54.3 in winning yesterday’s $122,310 Old Oaken Bucket
three-year-old
colt and gelding trot at the Delaware, Ohio County Fair. Dayton,
Ohio native
Eric Ledford shot Chip Chip Hooray to the front from his No. 3 post
and
really was never pushed, leading by seven lengths in the final turn
and
winning by 8 1/4 lengths over Crown Prince Gar with Cosington third.
The clocking of 1:54.3 broke the old world record
of 1:55.4 set at
Delaware in 1994 by Incredible Abe.
“He really felt good today,” said
trainer-co-owner Chuck Sylvester. “We
raced him without shoes. He’s just so much better without
shoes.” Sylvester
plans to take the son of Pine Chip to Lexington and the Kentucky
Futurity.
“He’ll be racing against the big boys down there, but they’ll
know he was in
the race.”
The smallish colt is owned by Sylvester, Mike
Prakas, Winged Foot Farms
and Neal Goldman.
Standardbred 2-YO Colt Trot
Princess Callie and Fan For Life won divisions of
the $60,510
Standardbred 2-YO filly Trot in the same 1:56 clockings, same
gait-to-wire
fashion and both were driven by Canadians.
Rob Waxman’s Princess Callie picked up her
third victory by two lengths
over Pan Hanoverand Nassau Loop. Hall of Famer John Campbell picked
up his
119th career victory at the Delaware, Ohio County Fair with the
Western
Hanover filly. Robert McIntosh is the trainer.
The Life Sign filly Fan For Life, driven byPaul
MacDonell for J.L.
Vallecoccia and D.A. McNeill, defeated Keystone Impulsive and
Numeric Hanover
for her fourth season’s victory. Mike Keeling is the trainer.
