Million Dollar Cam and driver Luc Ouellette won the 57th
edition of the $618,625 Little Brown Jug in straight heats in
front of 50,755 fans Thursday afternoon at the Delaware, Ohio
County Fairgrounds.
At the start of the second heat, Million Dollar Cam defended
the #1 post position and led the field into the first turn,
leaving Mach Three (John Campbell) parked on the outside.
Million Dollar Cam refused to yield to Mach Three and they
passed the quarter mile pole in tandem in a stakes record :25
4/5. The son of Cam's Card Shark set the remaining fractions
of :53 1/5 and 1:21 3/5. As the field turned for home, Million
Dollar Cam refused to be denied and bested Life Is A Cabaret
(George Brennan) and Western Resolve (Ron Pierce) by one
length in a stakes and world record time of 1:50 2/5. The Jug
victory was the first for the driver Luc Ouellette and owner
Jeffrey S. Snyder of New York, NY. "This is fantastic. This
has to be one of the most exciting days of my life," noted the
victorious owner. "I'm going to fill this jug up with red wine
and not stop 'till we finish it."
As the gate opened for the second heat, Monsoon Hall (Luc
Ouellette) and Million Dollar Cam led a quartet of horses
going after the early lead. Million Dollar Cam (John Campbell)
took control just before the quarter pole and never looked
back. Three Olives (David Miller) was parked from the start of
the race and was forced three wide down the backstretch.
Million Dollar Cam crossed the finish line three and one-half
lengths ahead of Three Olives in 1:51 4/5. Western Resolve
(Mike Lachance) rallied late to nip Monsoon Hall to advance to
the $334,057 second heat.
Allamerican Ingot (David Miller) took the first elimination in
1:52 1/5. As the field headed into the first turn, Camystic
(Luc Ouellette) and Image Of Dawn (Patrick Lachance) were sent
after the lead. Allamerican Ingot was not content on staying
third and was sent to the lead just past the quarter mile
pole. Allamerican Ingot, the son of Western Hanover,
controlled the pace and led the field through :54 4/5 and 1:23
fractions. Life Is A Cabaret (George Brennan) used the live
cover of Cam's Fast Gun (On Pierce) to finish second, just
length behind the winner. Camystic (Luc Ouellette) took the
show spot.
In the third $74,235 elimination early breaks in stride by
Ashlee's Big Guy (Don Irvine, Jr.) and Mystic Art (Dave Magee)
helped jumble the field and allowed Mach Three (John Campbell)
to capture the lead just past the 1/8 mile pole. Art Major
(Mike Lachance) was forced to come to the outside uncovered to
pressure the leader. Mach Three and Art Major drew off from
the rest of the field to stage a two horse battle. At the wire
Mach Three had extended his advantage to 2 lengths and
12
lengths ahead of Fancy Schmansy (George Brennan) in third. The
winning time of 1:51 1/5, equaled the stakes record.
