Horseman and
Fair World Poll
By Tom White
Million Dollar Cam's second heat victory in the
Little Brown Jug finished
in a dead heat with Andover Hall's second heat win in the
World Trotting
Derby as the "Race of the Year" in 2002 as determined by a vote of
subscribers to The Horseman and Fair World magazine.
"It is rather ironic that these two races were
considered the most
deserving by fans," says Kathy Parker, editor and general manager
of The
Horseman. "After all, they are two of the very few remaining
heat races in
the sport. Heat racing, of course, creates a certain kind of drama
not always
found in single-dash events, and this year's World Trotting Derby
and Little
Brown Jug proved that point very, very well."
The second heat of the Jug became very
intriguing when John Campbell
chose to drive Mach Three in the second heat and opted off Million
Dollar
Cam, who he also drove to an elimination victory. Campbell took
his best shot
at winning the second Jug heat by launching an early first-over
assault, but
he was parked by Million Dollar Cam and driver Luc Ouellette, who
held on for
the victory. Bill Robinson trains Million Dollar Cam for
owner Jeffrey
Snyder.
