Is the $450,000 Cane Pace a preview to the 58th Little Brown Jug
scheduled for Thursday, September 18 at the Delaware, Ohio County Fair? Thirteen
three-year-old pacers will compete in two $55,170 eliminations for the Cane Pace on
this Saturday afternoon at Freehold Raceway in New Jersey.
Most of 2003's heavy hitters are among the Cane contenders including
North America Cup winner Yankee Cruiser, Meadowlands Pace winner Allamerican
Theory, juvenile champion and North America Cup runner-up Allamerican Native, Adios
Pace champion Armbro Animate and Art Rooney winner and runner-up No Pan Intended and The Globe.
Saturday will be the first time this season that most of the major
Little Brown Jug colts will be facing each other. The first four finishers in
each elimination will race in the Cane Final on Labor Day afternoon, Saturday,
September 1. The Cane Pace is also the first leg of Pacing's Triple Crown
followed by the Little Brown Jug and the Messenger Pace on October 18 at The
Meadows.
