O'Cala Kash Completes Triple Crown

O'Cala Kash (Randy Tharps) took advantage of a late miscue by leader Lisa's Laser (Jim Dailey) to capture the Ohio Breeders Championship for three-year-old filly trotters and thus  completing the Ohio "Triple Crown" (State Fair Stakes, Sire Stakes Final and OBC). As the gate's wings folded, Lisa's Laser grabbed the early lead forcing O'Cala Kash to come first up at the 3/8 mile pole. Lisa's Laser seemed to have O'Cala Kash parked and primed for a knock out blow. As the duel approached the ¾ mile pole, Lisa's Laser jumped off stride and allowed O'Cala Kash to take over and cruise to a 2 1/2 length score over Foxy Caller (Justin Hall). The victor is owned by W. T. Zollars, L. L. Spearman and J. R. Slaughter of Ohio and Kentucky.

In the first division, Striking Page (Dave Hawk) used a perfect pocket trip and rallied in the deep stretch to score a 1 1/2 length victory over Striking Crystal (Bob Harper) in 2:01 2/5. Chust Chudy (Don McKirgan) took the show spot completing a Striking Sahbra sweep. Striking Page is owned by Patricia Wollam of Vienna, Ohio and Acadia Farms of Canfield, Ohio.

In the second $21,640 division, BV Victory (Sam Noble III) scored a 1 1/2 length victory in 1:59 1/5. Lookoutmom (Ron Steck) and Bueno Sahbra (Greg Grismore) took the place and show spots in a five horse photo. The sophomore daughter of Big Victory gave Noble his 66th career victory at the Delaware County Fair.

Stakes Record Set In OBC Frosh Filly Pace

Jetstream Cute Cam (Bob Harper) followed up her recent victory in the $100,000 Ohio Sire Stakes Final with a solid performance in her $43,756 division of the OBC for two-year-old filly pacers. Jetstream Cute Cam came first over just before the half mile pole and cruised to a 4 ¾ length victory over More Taxes (Dave Hawk) in a stakes record 1:55 2/5. The Cam's Magic Trick daughter is trained by Joe Essig and is owned by James Wampler of Kettering, Ohio.

In the second division, Tammy Lou (Brett Miller) used a pocket trip and found enough daylight along the rail to edge past Anita Rush (Randy Tharps) in 1:58 2/5. Tammy Lou is trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr. for Darby's Edge Stable, Gwinnie Lou Stable and Joe DiScala, Jr.

Glory Bound Takes Older Trot

Glory Bound (Jim Pantaleano) survived a four horse photo to score a narrow victory in the $19,600 OBC for 4 and 5-year olds trotters in 1:57 3/5. The five-year-old gelded son of Queen's Guard is owned by Dee Hotton, J. Shapiro and R. Grodin, all of Ohio. Lotstoliveupto (Ron Steck), Dunkster (Dave Hawk) and Anastasia Baron (Jeff Conger) completed the $4,127.60 superfecta.

Hatfield & Chapman Remain 1 - 2 In Midwest

Bud Hatfield and Robert Chapman came to the Delaware County Fair first and second in the Midwest Points Standings of the Billings Amateur Trot and both reinsmen solidified their positions with victories Sunday afternoon.

Hatfield sent Axel Furie quickly away from the gate and coasted to a 2 ½ length victory over Bob Troyer's Arva Crest Scotty in the second of seven Billings divisions.

Chapman sent Kipling Avenue after the early lead in their division and never looked back scoring a 3 1/2 length victory over Howard Gelfand (Shipps Supercruise) in 2:00 2/5. Chapman also owns the 5-year-old Promising Catch mare.

Other Billings Amateur Trot divisions went to Peter Gerry (Sunhill's Alberto), Ned Hodkinson (Jazz Presqu Ile), Marlene Rhodes (Baron Sahbra), Michael Mitchell (Caruso Hanover) and William Bigler (Hootie And The Fish).
