By Tom White
3/02/05
Delaware, OH--For the second straight year, the Delaware County Fair will sponsor a future wager on the 2005 Little Brown Jug. The future wager allows racing fans to bet early on all three-year-olds who are eligible to the Little Brown Jug. The minimum bet is $2.00 and all Jug future wagers are win betting only.
There will be three separate betting pools for the 60th Little Brown Jug in the months leading up to the race with the winner of each pool being determined by the official first place finisher in the 2005 Little Brown Jug to be raced September 22.
Each of these pools will be offered for a period of four days. The first will be the weekend after the North America Cup (June 23-26); the second will be the weekend after the Meadowlands Pace (July 21-24); and the third will be the the weekend following the Adios Pace (August 18-21).
Timesareachanging, who won the 2004 Little Brown Jug, closed at odds of 17-1 in last year's first pool; 9-1 in the second pool; and the favorite at 3-1 in the third future wager pool in 2004.
Delaware Fair Marketing Director Phil Terry will have a team of racing analysts and handicappers select 23 horses for each pool. The rest of the horses for the three future betting pools will be packaged together into one "field" wager. The field will open at 5-1 odds.
Every three-year-old pacer in North America is included in the Jug field because if a colt wins the Cane Pace Triple Crown event on September 5 he can be supplemented into the Little Brown Jug. The Jug is the second leg of Pacing's Triple Crown series.
Each of the three pools will be offered for a period of four days.
The official fields for each Little Brown Jug future wager will be released at the standard time of 48 hours before the start of wagering. At that time, past performance and program information also will be made available.
All Little Brown Jug future wagers will be merged through the Ohio Hub located in Grove City, Ohio. For contact and operational information contact Phil Terry (740) 363-3754 or Simulcasting Director Jason Settlemoir (614) 491-2515.
