Delaware, OH--Ribbon cutting ceremonies for the Laverne A. Hill Jugette Barn will be held at 5 o'clock Thursday
afternoon at the Delaware, Ohio County Fairgrounds. The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce Business After
Hours will participate in the ceremony.
The new Jugette Barn is located between the log cabin and the Thomas Walsh Jug Barn. The octagonal structure will
have 30 stalls and a special area to display Jugette and Delaware historical harness racing memorabilia.
The 35th annual Jugette will be raced Wednesday afternoon, September 21.
"We've had an enjoyable time doing this project," said Phil Terry, director marketing for the Delaware County Fair.
"Laverne is so much fun. She's watched this barn grow from the ground up."
Mrs. Hill is the widow of Charlie Hill, founder of Scioto Downs and Hill Farms. "I can not think of a better way or place
to help our sport and honor the memory of my beloved husband. We both loved the Jug, Jugette and Grand Circuit
racing at Delaware."
Mrs. Hill likes to tell an amusing story in connection with the Jugette. "I missed the first 20 Jugette races because I
was at home cooking the 15 chickens we would serve the next day at our Little Brown Jug tail gate parties."
