By Tom White
8/12/04
There are 21 colts and geldings entered in Saturday's $500,500 Delvin Miller
Adios at The Meadows that are eligible to race in the 59th Little Brown Jug on
September 23 at Delaware, Ohio. (There are six Adios starters who are not
Jug eligible.)
Eleven past Adios winners have gone on to capture the Jug Classic, the most
recent being Million Dollar Cam in 2002. Others have been Precious Bunny ('91),
Beach Towel ('90), Goalie Jeff ('89), Barberry Spur ('86), Ralph Hanover
('83), Hot Hitter ('79), Armbro Omaha ('74), Strike Out ('72), Most Happy
Fella ('70) and Laverne Hanover ('69).
Many of the leading Jug contenders will compete in the Adios, including
Oliver Wendell Holmes division winners Metropolitan and Geartogear and Meadowlands
Pace runnerup Timesareachanging.
Three fields of nine will go in their $50,050 Adios
eliminations. The top three finishers from each will return for the $350,350 Final. This year's Adios
returns to the original conditions of the classic, with the finalists earning
their post positions.
