Marvin Rounick's Glowing Report won the $293,328 Jugette three-year-old filly pace in straight heats
Wednesday afternoon in front of 13,484 fans at the sun-drenched Delaware County
Fairgrounds.
As the gates wings folded in the $158,396 final, Glowing
Report (George Brennan) defended her rail position and forced the fast leaving Apple Krisp (Catello Manzi) into
the two hole. Glowing Report faced some pressure from the first over effort by the
second elim winner, Pantidepressant (Daniel Dube) at the half mile station and a late
stretch charge by Armbro Bombay (Ron Pierce) to score a 1 3/4 lengths victory in
1:53. Armbro Bombay edged Pantidepressant for the place spot. "She raced tremendous.
George gave her a perfect drive," noted trainer Jerry Silverman. "She was better in the
second heat than she was in the first."
In the first elimination, Glowing Report made a three-wide
move at the ¾ mile pole and edged Armbro Bombay by a half a length in 1:53 3/5. So Artsi (John Campbell) took the
lead from Armbro Bombay after being parked out in the :26 3/5 first quarter. Ron Pierce
was not content to set in the pocket with Armbro Bombay and retook control through
:54 1/5 and 1:23 splits. Brennan sent the daughter of Artsplace three-wide past
the three quarter pole and caught the tired leaders at the wire. "It was all I could do to keep
up with the them," noted Brennan. "She showed real grit in the lane." Armbro Bombay,
BJ's Sunset (David Miller) and So Artsi completed the superfecta and advanced to the
final.
The second $52,800 elimination went to the 13 - 1
Pantidepressant in 1:52 4/5. A patient Daniel Dube sat fourth as Apple Krisp set the fractions of :25 4/5, :54 1/5 and
1:23. The eventual winner benefited from the torrid pace and found some daylight in mid
stretch and pulled away score a one length victory over Apple Krisp. Dube summed up
the mile, "I got racing luck and I got her to the front and she responded."
Mambo Hall (George Brennan) and West Coast Arturo (Mike Wilder) advanced to the second heat.
Pantidepressant is the homebred daughter of The Panderosa and is owned by the
Peter Pan Stables of Pepper Pike, OH.
