Western Guy Moves To Steve Elliott Stable

Although he won’t be in Delaware Thursday, Sept. 21 with pacer Artistic Fella for the Little Brown Jug, trainer Steve Elliott has received a last-minute addition to his stable to be entered in the pacing classic. According to a report on The Horseman & Fair World web site harnessracing.com, Steve Elliott was scheduled to receive Western Guy at his barn Thursday at The Red Mile, and he will send the Western Hanover colt to Delaware next week for the Jug.

Trainer Jake Huff’s wife, Rosella, has sold her interest in the 3-year-old Western Guy which resulted in the transfer. Elliott and owner Joseph Alborano had decided earlier to not supplement Artistic Fella into either the Cane Pace or Little Brown Jug.

“It’s a funny business,” Elliott said about the change in his Jug destiny.
“We’ll just train him on the half mile track at The Red Mile and see.”

Western Guy is coming off a second place finish behind Sandro Hanover in last Saturday’s Jug Preview at Scioto Downs. Earlier this year he finished second behind Total Truth in the $450,000 Hoosier Cup. His lifetime mark is 1:51.1 and he has two wins in 13 starts this year, with earnings of $182,000.
