Future Wagering On The 62nd Little Brown Jug

by Tom White

DELAWARE, OH--Future wagering on the Little Brown Jug will be offered three times leading up to the 62nd renewal of the three-year-old pacing classic on September 20 at the Delaware, OH Fair.   Each future wager will be for a period of four days.

Wagers will be accepted at racetracks and on internet sites throughout North America and Europe.  The future wager allows fans to bet early on all three-year-olds who are eligible to the Jug.  The minimum bet is $2.00 and all future wagers are win betting only.

There will be three separate betting pools for the 62nd Little Brown Jug in the two months leading up to the race with the winner of each pool being determined by the official first place finisher in the 2007 Little Brown Jug to be raced September 20.

Each of the three betting pools will be offered for a period of four days as follows:

12 p.m., July 19 through 11:30 p.m. July 22.  This is the weekend following the Meadowlands Pace at The Meadowlands.

12 p.m. August 16 through 11:30 p.m. August 19.  This is the weekend after the Adios at The Meadows and the week before the Cane Pace at Freehold Raceway.

12 p.m. September 16 through 11:30 p.m. September 19.  This is during the first four Grand Circuit afternoons of racing at the Delaware, OH Fair.

All of the horses entered for the 2007 Little Brown Jug and their post positions will be known following the draw on Saturday morning, September 15 at the log cabin on the backstretch of the fairgrounds.

“For the second year our fans at the track here in Delaware will have the opportunity to place future wagers at the regular betting windows throughout the fairgrounds,” said Phil Terry, director of marketing.

Mr Feelgood, who won the 2006 Little Brown Jug, paid $162.80 in the first  pool; returned $69 in the second pool; and paid $61.80 in the third pool.  Mr Feelgood paid $5.40 on Jug Day.

Terry will again have a team of racing analysts and handicappers select 23 horses for each pool.  The rest of the horses will be packaged together into one “field” wager.  The field will open at 5-1 odds.  The horses included in each of the three wagering pools will be listed in alphabetical order.

Every three-year-old pacer in North America is included in the Jug field because if a colt wins the Cane Pace he can be supplemented into the Jug.

The official fields for each Little Brown Jug future wager will be released at the standard time of 48 hours before the start of wagering.  At that time past performance and program information also will be made available.
