Three Divisons of OBC 2 Year-Old Filly Trot Contested
Queen Of Lavec and Greg Grismore gained some revenge on Carly's Crown (Chris Page) by capturing the third division of the $72,756 Ohio Breeder's Championship for freshman
filly trotters.
Grismore sent the eventual winner after the early lead forcing the Ohio Sire Stakes champion Carly's Crown into the two hole. Queen Of Lavec set the fractions of :30 1/5, and
1:00 4/5. As the field approached the three quarter mile station in 1:31 3/5, Carly's Crown was sent to the outside forcing Hooray For Melody (Sam Noble III) three wide. Queen
Of Lavec used a :29 1/5 final panel to put away Carly's Crown by a length in 2:00 4/5.
The daughter of Master Lavec is trained by Mickey Burke for owners Howard Taylor, Judith Taylor, Edwin Gold and Abraham Basen.
In the second division, French Chip (Sam Noble III) scored an upset victory over Ice Fortune K (Mike Wilder) in 2:02.
French Chip and Ice Fortune K sat in the middle of the pack as the pacesetting R U Watching (Jim Dailey) and Norma's Rose (Aaron Merriman) battled for the lead. French Chip
sprinted past the leader in midstretch and held off Ice Fortune K by a head. French Chip, who paid $58.40 to win, is owned by Donald Breeze and Patrick Sibler.
It was an emotional winner's circle after the first $24,252 division went to She's Not Red (Ray Paver) in 2:01 4/5. She's Not Red scored for the fifth time in just eight
seasonal starts for Ron Anderson, trainer Scott Mogan and William Johnson II. Mogan took over the training duties after the death of Ohio Hall of Famer Terry Holton earlier
this spring.
Flawless Chip (Don McKirgan) and Tally Ho Chip completed the trifecta.
